NEW BELGIUM - U.S.DOUBLE TAX TREATY
Avoiding double taxation & creating new investment opportunities
A new U.S.-Belgium Double Tax Treaty entered into force on December 28,
2007. The new Treaty garners an enthusiastic welcome in the business
community as it significantly reduces tax-related barriers to investment
flows between the U.S. and Belgium. One of the Treaty highlights is the
elimination of source-country taxation of qualifying dividends, interest and
royalties (subject to certain conditions), thereby creating many new
cross-border investment opportunities. Other benefits of the treaty
include, e.g.: a binding arbitration procedure, provisions on fiscally
transparent entities, and an update of the tax treatment of pensions.
