About the job

About Us

Founded in 1919, BelCham (the Belgian-American Chamber of Commerce in the USA) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization headquartered in New York City. For over a century, we’ve championed Belgian and European entrepreneurship in the U.S., operating with the agility and creativity of a lean startup. We’re the creators of BelCham Atelier, the first coworking space for Belgian/European companies in NYC, and BeNeLux Catalyst, our accelerator for European startups scaling to the U.S. market.

The Role

As Managing Director, you will be the heartbeat of BelCham. You’ll own the strategic vision, drive operational excellence, and ensure our members and partners feel the impact of BelCham every day. This role is equal parts visionary, executor, and people champion, perfect for an entrepreneurial leader ready to shape the future of international business engagement.

In short: you’ll guide, inspire, and grow BelCham while keeping your finger on the pulse of the Belgian-U.S. business ecosystem.

What You’ll Own

  • Strategic Planning & Vision: Set and execute long-term strategy to respond to member needs and evolving business landscapes. Make key business decisions and future-proof BelCham for the next 100 years.

  • Executive Leadership & Advocacy: Be the face and voice of BelCham to members, partners, media, and the wider ecosystem. Advise and report to the Board of Directors, advisory councils, and annual meetings.

  • Operations & Team Leadership: Oversee daily operations, including marketing, business development, finance, HR, and programming. Build, motivate, and mentor a small, high-performing team. Ensure exceptional member experience across the full lifecycle, from acquisition to offboarding.

  • Fundraising & Growth Initiatives: Drive BelCham’s commercial growth strategy across memberships, sponsorships, and partnerships, with clear revenue and growth targets aligned to organizational sustainability. Innovate BelCham’s hybrid model, blending in-person and online experiences. Identify opportunities for new programs, events, and initiatives that create tangible value for members.

Who You Are

We’re looking for a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and purpose-driven leader who thrives at the intersection of strategy and execution. You are an out-of-the-box thinker ready to challenge the status quo. You are a people-first leader who can inspire a diverse, international team. You are financially savvy and operationally rigorous. Comfortable navigating the Belgian/European and U.S. entrepreneurial ecosystems. Passionate about building a resilient, future-ready organization.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication, networking, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Affinity with Belgium and interest in the Belgian-U.S. business ecosystem is a must.

  • Authorization to work in the United States.

  • Experience in a start-up, social impact, or not-for-profit environment is a strong plus.
