Trainees

Once the trainee and company have submitted their documents, we will consider the application complete and submit it to the Ministry of Brussels Capital Region for review. The Ministry’s review may take up to one month. If approved, a copy of the work permit will be sent to the Local Administration where the company is located. (The bottom part will be completed and validated by the Belgian administration). The employer must retrieve the work permit from the Local Administration and send it the trainee.


Once the trainee receives his/her work permit he/she should visit a Belgian Consulate in the U.S. to obtain his/her Visa to stay in Belgium (To find a list of Belgian Consulates go to: http://www.diplobel.us/TravelingBelgium/Visas/Interns.asp)

Visa Request Processing Time

The Trainee must present the following documents to the Embassy or Consulate:

Visa application fee: $65 in cash, certified check or money order. Personal checks are not accepted. The Consulate will stamp the passport with a temporary authorization to remain in Belgium.

Steps for Trainee upon arrival in Belgium

Within 8 days of his/her arrival, the trainee must register with his/her passport at the district (communal administration) where he/she resides.
